Rob Smith
Hitting / Fielding Instructor (boys & girls)

Rob has over 30 years of baseball experience.  He is a former college all-star shortstop/infielder and went on to be a professional baseball player in the Cleveland Indians organization.  He is currently the head assistant coach for Hayden Catholic High School varsity baseball and the Head Coach/Director of Operations for the college prep summer baseball program – Midwest Bruins.  He offers advanced baseball instruction, utilizing his expertise in hitting, fielding, throwing techniques and the mental & physical concepts of the game.  He has a talent for evaluating students and creating a tailored lesson plan – to maximize each student’s potential.

Mike Hughes
Hitting / Fielding / Catching Instructor (boys & girls) — Pitching (boys only)

Mike has over 20 years of baseball experience.  He has been instructing youth for many years.  As a former college pitcher at Johnson County CC and Washburn University, with experience as an infielder & outfielder as well, Mike offers expertise in all aspects of the game.  With his passion for teaching and advanced knowledge in the area of pitching, students will have an opportunity to learn the correct fundamentals of pitching, refining their overall ability.  He instills confidence in each student’s own ability – creating a positive learning environment.  Mike also teaches hitting and fielding at our group clinics.  He will also help coach the SBA summer baseball program — Midwest Bruins.

Justine Balsmeier
Fast-Pitch Softball Pitching Instructor (girls only)


Justine Balsmeier has been playing and coaching softball for over 16 years.  Coach Riner pitched at Park University and was an All-Conference player in each year of her 4 years there.  She loves to compete and has a true love for the game.  While at Park, she assisted in coaching and helped improve her fellow pitchers’ skills and mechanics.  Justine was a very successful college pitcher with 6 different pitches; she was known for her precise location of pitches and her “go to” change up.  Coach Riner is currently the head varsity softball coach at Hayden Catholic High School. She knows what it takes to play to at the next level and is eager to share her knowledge of the art of pitching.

Aaron Becker
Hitting / Fielding / Catching Instructor (boys & girls)


Aaron has over 15 years of experience as a player and coach.  Formerly, he was the head baseball coach at Hayden High School for over 10 years.  He played college baseball at Pittsburg State University where he was a middle infielder.  He has a great passion teaching baseball and gets the most out of his students.  Aaron has coached several players that have gone on and played college baseball.

Nick Butler
Hitting / Fielding / Catching Instructor (boys & girls)

Coach Nick Butler was a 3 sport stand-out in high school.  He went on to play baseball in college:  2 years at Allen County Juco, then 2 years at Fort Hays State.  He was an All-Conference catcher as a Freshman and All-Conference infielder as a Sophomore.  He was an All-RMAC player at FHSU.  He has 6 years of high school baseball coaching under his belt.  He is currently an assistant at Lawrence Free State.  He brings expertise in all areas of baseball – hitting, infield, outfield, etc.  His passion is to pass on his knowledge to the younger players so that one day they can utilize his teachings to play baseball at a higher level.  Coach Butler enjoys keeping the game of baseball fun, but expecting to get the most out of every player he teaches, with a solid work ethic.

Tony Shaw
Pitching Instructor (boys only)

Coach Tony Shaw  has over 30 years of baseball experience.  He has been coaching and instructing youth and High School players for over 15 years.  Tony is a former pitcher at Allen County CC and Division-1 pitcher at Univ. Louisiana-Lafayette and also pitched in the Cleveland Indians organization.  Through his years of experience and commitment to studying the art and science of pitching, he has a real understanding of what it takes to be a successful pitcher at any level.

TJ McGreevy
Pitching Instructor (boys only)









Coach TJ McGreevy has been coaching and playing baseball for over 20 years. He graduated from Hayden in 2009–was an All-State High School standout in football, basketball and baseball. After high school, he pitched at Division-1 Wichita State University from 2010-2013.  He has also been the pitching coach for the Rossville Rattlers college summer organization and coached baseball in the spring at Topeka West High School. Coach McGreevy really enjoys teaching the game and the art of pitching to kids of all ages and skill levels. He thrives on watching his pitchers improve and helping them become better pitchers.

Mary Constant

Coach Mary Constant played competitive Fast-pitch Softball for over 16 years and has been involved in the coaching ranks for the last 5 years.  She was a Varsity outfielder and pitcher at Ottawa University before becoming a successful Student Assistant Coach in the program.  She is getting started in the Education field, as she enjoys teaching and mentoring kids.  Coach Constant has a passion for coaching Girls Softball players of all skill levels. She has expertise in all aspects of the game, including pitching, hitting, and fielding.

Chris Linnemann
Pitching Instructor (boys only)










Chris graduated from Rossville High School in 2006 where he was an All-State baseball player his junior and Senior years.  After high school, he played baseball at Coffeyville Community college for the Red Ravens.  His time at Coffeyville helped him grow as a baseball player and as a person.  He finished his college baseball career at Sterling University pitching for the Warriors.  Coach Linnemann is a very competitive individual and has a strong passion for teaching the art and mechanics of baseball Pitching.  He has over 20 years of playing experience and just loves being around the game of baseball in general.  Coach Linnemann has a passion to teach and help young pitchers, striving to maximize potential and get the most out of each individual both on and off the field.  He will also help coach the SBA summer baseball program — Midwest Bruins.

Ryan Colombo
Hitting / Fielding Instructor (boys & girls)







Ryan Colombo brings 15 years of baseball experience to SBA. He graduated from Seaman HS in 2013, capping off a tremendous career. He was named the Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year in 2013. He went on to play college baseball at Drury University from 2013 – 2017, where he was a utility infielder and pitcher. He was an All-Conference player his Freshman and Senior years. In 2017, he earned both the GLVC Player of the Year and Josh Willingham Most Valuable Player awards. His coaching philosophy is geared toward developing young athletes to be all-around players, engaging all aspects of the game. He sets challenging goals for his student-athletes, delivering a tailored plan and progression for each individual to maximize his or her potential. Ryan believes that no goals are unattainable.

Colby is a Topeka native and was an All-State middle infielder at Hayden Catholic High School in 2015.  He currently attends Rockhurst University and is a middle infielder on the baseball program.  Colby offers expertise in the areas of hitting and middle-infield play and really connects with young players of all skill levels.  Colby is a part-time instructor at SBA — only coaching during school breaks.  He will also help coach the SBA summer baseball program — Midwest Bruins.

Adam is a Topeka native that currently lives in Alaska and works at Gamers Baseball, which is an alliance of successful baseball players and coaches that strive to increase the interest and participation levels of youth baseball in Alaska.  Coach Adam Smith has a vast amount of baseball knowledge and participates in some of our clinics and lessons when he’s visiting Topeka.  His playing career was cut short in college due to injuries, which gives his coaching philosophy a refreshing twist — he understands the importance of living in the moment and he passes this passion onto his students.  In college, he was a standout catcher with a career batting average of .348.  He also threw out 52% of base-stealers in his career.  Smith is a young coach who understands what it takes to hit and catch at the next level.

Cindi handles office administration and assists with scheduling.  She keeps Coach Smith and the other instructors in line!
